Stewart Day Award Recipients

The editor of Old Timers News [OTN] is pleased to announce the winners of the Stuart Day Award and the citations for their particular articles.

The following criteria was taken into account:

  1. Committee members are not permitted to be considered for the award.
  2. The article must be an original – not a copy of an article from another publication.
  3. The article must be considered to be of interest to members.
  4. The author should be a member of RAOTC [at any level] – special consideration could be given to an author who is not a member if the article is deemed to be worthy of the award.

Moving the Station and Downsizing the Antenna Paul Edwards,

VK7ZAJ.Paul showed in great detail how he managed to reduce the amount of equipment in his shack for a much smaller space and still maintain adequate antennas to keep operating on his most popular bands. This article covers an issue that all amateurs will have to deal with at some point in their lives.

Leading Lights and Bright Sparks – Peter Wolfenden VK3RV [2 parts]

Peter produced a well-researched and comprehensive article about the people involved in the City of Melbourne Power supplies. Starting with the first street lighting in Melbourne  [1847], He covered the development of Melbourne’s electric power supply and the many changes that occurred over time.

My radio Life – Winston Nickols VK7EM [2 parts] 

Winston has produced a very comprehensive personal history of his radio career from the early days servicing TVs in the 1960’s , through his professional career to the current day. It included many anecdotes which would be of interest to members and shows how much amateur radio played a role in his personal development.

The committee felt all candidates are worthy of their awards and hope other members will write articles for OTN
